Mary Kay Cosmetics was founded by Mary Kathlyn Ash, an entrepreneur from Texas whose goal was to offer women an opportunity to succeed financially through direct sales. She began her cosmetics business from her kitchen table in 1962. After numerous rejections from investors, she managed to raise $5,000 from 19 friends to start manufacturing cosmetics herself. Her first catalog contained nine skin care items and three foundation colors. Since then, Mary Kay Inc.has become a global brand sold in nearly 40 markets around the world. With over $4 billion dollars in annual sales, it continues to be family owned and operated based in Dallas, Texas. Products include facial skincare, body care, fragrance, makeup, sun protection, and nutritional supplements. The company also operates a charitable arm – The Mary Kay FoundationSM – dedicated exclusively to cancer research and awareness programs.
